The plumbing deadline
A wall-mounted mixer must be decided before walls are chased and closed. Once tiling is done, switching to a wall mixer means breaking open finished surfaces.
Projection is everything
Measure from the finished wall to the centre of the basin. The spout must clear the basin rim and land near the drain, otherwise water runs down the front of the bowl.
- Vessel basins on a counter: longer projection, higher rough-in
- Undercounter basins: shorter projection, lower rough-in
- Always confirm the rough-in kit depth against your wall build-up
When deck-mounted wins
Renovations, freestanding vanities and rental properties usually favour deck-mounted mixers: simpler service access, no wall work and easy replacement later.
Frequently asked
- Are wall-mounted basin mixers harder to maintain?
