Where to invest, where to save, and how to build a tapware budget that survives the whole project.

Spend where hands touch

The main bathroom basin mixer, the kitchen mixer and the shower valve are used every day. These deserve the largest share of the budget; a guest cloakroom used twice a month does not.

Concealed parts are not the place to save

Rough-in bodies, cartridges and in-wall cisterns are buried behind tile. Replacing a failed concealed valve costs far more than the valve itself.

Plan for lead times

Premium imported tapware typically carries a four to eight week lead time. Order once the plumbing layout is locked, not when tiling starts.
